Hey Friends, America’s 250th birthday bash has begun. And with it, I’m sad to say, the fireworks have started that will only get louder and more frequent through the Fourth of July weekend. If you live with an animal who is sensitive to sound, you may already be feeling the stress in your home. I know I am. My dog, Yogi Bear, gets extremely anxious when he hears fireworks. And it’s heartbreaking watching him suffer. Our pets don’t understand why their world is suddenly filled with random loud bangs and strange bright lights. They only know that it feels scary and unsafe. That's why it's so important to prepare now before their fear and anxiety take over. Loud, sudden explosions can send animals into a panic, causing them to jump fences, break free, or jump through screens and doors in an attempt to escape the noise. That’s why it’s so important to check gates, doors, windows, and screens now. Consider creating a quiet, safe space in a back bedroom or laundry room where they can feel protected from the noise and lights. Close the curtains or shades, give them a toy and play calming music. During this time, try to stick to your animal family’s routine as much as possible. Walk dogs earlier in the day. Bring outdoor cats inside especially before dark. Make sure your pet is wearing their ID tags and that their information is up to date. Consider attaching a GPS tracker to their collar for added peace of mind, just in case they do slip out. Contact your veterinarian now if you feel your animal could benefit from medication to help them cope with noise anxiety. Consider an animal communication session along with a distant Reiki session to ease their fears and soothe their nervous system. Prepare now. Call your vet now. Check safety now. Don’t wait until the fireworks are in full swing. A little preparation now can help your animal feel safer, calmer, and more supported in the days ahead. Stay safe, ~Cat Malkin |

Yo! Yo! Yo! (That's Yogi speak for Oy, Oy, Oy!) Mensch Yogi Bear Tonight's sunset marks the first night of the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights. The Hanukkah miracle involves a tiny amount of oil, enough for just one day, lasting eight days. The Festival of Lights celebrates this miracle by lighting the menorah for eight straight days. This inspirational holiday is about light, hope, and resilience, even when times feel uncertain. Animals reflect these same...
September is National Responsible Dog Ownership Month. As a Pet Parenting Specialist and Animal Communicator, I've found that being a responsible dog parent is about more than walks, food, and belly rubs. September's focus on responsible ownership offers us a chance to explore our role as pet guardians. In just the last few weeks, I’ve had multiple sessions where a loving dog parent asked the gut-wrenching question: Is my dog better off in a new home? The decision to rehome a pet is often...
It took me 6 months to work up the courage because I have major trust issues. My issues stem from my first mom teaching me to retreat whenever things didn’t feel safe, so that’s what I do to protect myself. Thankfully, Cat understands this. She is patient, kind, and persistent. Cat knows I can't go any faster than I'm comfortable. Her secret sauce? Cat consistently meets me where I’m at during our daily “dates,” where I let her pet me while noshing on something tasty. Day by day. Treat by...
